Traceability

Code

The traceability code shall be a 15-character code by which a finished product can be reliably traced to the source of its raw material supplier, and to the customer. The traceability code shall take the form as follows:

Processing Code Packing Code
IM17122401 15201
Packing Code
Day in week of packing Week of year Lot of the day
1 52 01

Article Number

It is an internally generated code that identifies the different product specifications available. The following article number rule shall apply;

  1. Product type e.g., 10 refers to Mango product, 20 refers to Pineapple product
  2. Preservation status e.g., 01 refers to Organic, 02 refers to Unpreserved, 03 refers to Preserved
  3. Size specification
    • For mango 000 refers to no specific size cut, 001 refers to 1 -2 cm, 002 refers to 2 – 4cm, 003 refers to 4 – 6cm, 004 refers to 6 – 9cm.
    • For pineapple 000 refers to no specific size cut, 001 refers to tidbits, 002 refers to quarters, 003 refers to rings.

Thus, article number 1002004 translates as mango unpreserved 6 – 9 cm.

Tracing

A QR code should be generated for each traceability code. This QR code should be made available during the packing activities and should be downloadable. Users should be able to enter the traceability code in the mobile app or web app to view relevant activities related to that traceability code. The data to display are

  • Supplier(s): Their names and addresses
  • Packing date
  • Production data
    • date
    • input / material used
    • material suppliers

Consumers should also be able to scan a QR code or enter a traceability code to see the above details about a product without having to sign in.

Reporting

It is essential for users to also track the lifecycle of a production code (not traceability code). Users should be able to enter a production code in a search box and all activities performed using that production code will be displayed. The following details should be displayed when generating a production code report.

  • intake codes issued
  • processing > fresh fruit quantity, cut fruit quantity
  • drying > quantity dried
  • removing > quantity removed
  • palletization
